PDFs are the format people most often need to change and are least equipped to change. The three operations that come up constantly — combining several files into one, pulling specific pages out, and getting a file small enough to email — normally mean either paid software or handing a document to a website you know nothing about.
These tools run on pdf-lib inside your browser, so a contract, invoice or medical record never leaves your device. That matters more for PDFs than for almost any other file type, because PDFs are what people use for the documents they least want copied.
One honest limitation on compression: this optimises the PDF's internal structure and strips redundant metadata. It does not re-encode embedded images, so a PDF that is large because it contains high-resolution scans will shrink less than one bloated by inefficient structure. The tool tells you the before and after size so you can judge the result.
Frequently asked questions
- Are my PDFs uploaded anywhere?
- No. Merging, splitting and compressing all happen in your browser, which is what makes these tools safe for contracts, invoices and personal records.
- Will a watermark be added?
- Never. The output is a clean, standard PDF. No branding, no trial marking, no page limits.
- Why did my PDF barely get smaller?
- Because its size is probably coming from embedded images rather than structural inefficiency. This compressor optimises structure and metadata; image-level re-encoding is a planned addition.
- Can I work with password-protected PDFs?
- Not directly. Encrypted PDFs need the password removed first, after which the unlocked file can be merged, split or compressed normally.
